Kettles & mash tuns
Choose the vessel for its brewing task, working volume and supplied fittings. A stainless boiling kettle and an insulated cooler-based mash tun serve different stages; nominal capacity alone does not describe a complete setup.
Buying advice & FAQ ↓Choosing kettles & mash tuns
What changes the purchase?
Capacity and working volume are different checks
The Concord is the 20 US qt/5 US gal nominal option. Brewsie supplies 40 qt/10 gal, Gas One BS-64 supplies 64 qt/16 gal and the selected MegaPot is 80 qt/20 gal. These figures describe vessel capacity. Allow for the actual recipe, grain arrangement, headroom and process losses rather than treating each number as a finished-beer yield.
Compare what comes with the vessel
The selected kettle sets include a lid, thermometer and manual outlet valve. The Brewsie also supplies a false bottom, bazooka screen and inner connector. Gas One lists small assembly supplies. The Quick Fit uses a 10 gal Igloo cooler with a false bottom and fittings; no heater is supplied, and it should not be mistaken for a stainless boiling pot.
Measure the complete installation
Concord’s 11 in width and 11.5 in height refer to the 20 qt pot body; Brewsie’s 14×16 in figures also exclude fitted parts. Allow room for handles, the dial and the outlet. Confirm heat-source support, vessel instructions and actual hose connections. A stainless body or a removable fitting does not establish universal induction compatibility or a pump.
Questions before choosing
Will a 20 qt kettle give me five gallons of finished beer?
That is its nominal vessel capacity. Actual working volume and final yield depend on the recipe and process; the catalogue does not promise that yield.
Do all the kettle sets include a grain filter?
No. The selected Brewsie includes a false bottom and bazooka screen. Check the exact contents of the other sets before adding filtering parts.
Can I use the pot-only width as its installed footprint?
No. Handles, thermometer and outlet need additional space beyond the pot body.
