Choose the material you will crush
These references are for brewing malt. FERRODAY excludes flour production and several hard or fibrous materials; the corresponding MaltMuncher maker identifies malted barley, wheat and rye. A brewing mill should not be selected as a universal kitchen grinder.
Compare roller construction and hopper size
The two-roller FERRODAY offers stainless rollers and a 7.7 lb hopper. The three-roller MILL710 offers cold-rolled steel rollers and a 12 lb hopper. Choose the arrangement and refill capacity that suit the grain charge, without assuming a measured speed or yield advantage.
Plan the complete manual station
A hand crank does not include a supporting board or a collection bucket. Check the selected mill’s mounting arrangement and allow space to operate the crank. Optional drill use does not make a drill necessary for the supplied manual mechanism.
Use the actual adjustment and care instructions
Use the actual mill’s gap range and adjustment scale. Do not transfer a setting or cleaning routine between the two. For the MaltMuncher, keep the rollers dry and brush out residue as the maker directs.
Compare the job and the buying check
FERRODAY GM-M-504 Two-Roller Malt Mill, No Base Plate
A hand-cranked malt crusher with an adjustable roller gap, supplied without a supporting base plate.
Check: Provide an appropriate support and collection vessel for the no-base version.
Homebrewers Outpost MILL710 MaltMuncher Three-Roller Grain Mill
A manual malt mill with a larger hopper and an adjustable lower roller, requiring a separate supporting mount.
Check: Plan a stable supporting mount and a separate collection vessel.
Further questions
Is the 12 lb model automatically the right choice for a smaller grain charge?
Not necessarily. Compare hopper size, construction, supporting space and the actual work you expect; capacity alone does not establish a benefit.
Can I wash the MaltMuncher rollers with water?
The maker says to keep them dry and brush out the mill. Its warning about wet grain and rust applies to the cold-rolled steel rollers.
Should I use one gap setting for every brewing malt?
No universal setting is supplied. Follow the exact mill and brewing-process requirements rather than copying a number from another mill.
