Mash & hop tools
Choose the operation before the accessory: mix grain, contain an addition, spread incoming sparge water or screen a vessel outlet. Paddles, hop containers, diffusers and outlet hardware do not replace one another.
Buying advice & FAQ ↓Choosing mash & hop tools
What changes the purchase?
Compare paddle reach and working ends
The 16 in Spaddle combines a slotted paddle and spoon. Anvil specifies a 24 in stainless paddle with a hanging hook; the longer plastic reference has a smaller end described for carboy necks. The 36 in hardwood model adds a T-handle. Check vessel depth, opening and room to move the handle; no universal reach or wood species is assumed.
Open basket, closed cylinder or fabric sock
The TIZZE large 300 micron basket hangs at a kettle rim and keeps its top accessible. Tlence supplies two smaller 300 micron cylinders with screw lids. Regency supplies ten 14 in cotton socks with a discard-after-use routine. Those are choices of access, closure and cleaning, not interchangeable capacity or particle-cutoff ratings.
Separate incoming water from outgoing wort
The semfeilbrew diffusion plate spreads incoming sparge water. The UP100 set supplies an outlet screen, bulkhead, valve and hose barb for a suitable vessel. The diffuser does not strain the outlet, and the outlet kit does not distribute water above the grain. Plan the actual fittings and vessel installation separately.
Questions before choosing
Is a hop container a full-size mash bag?
These hop baskets, cylinders and cotton socks contain additions. A kettle-sized grain liner is a different format; no full-grain-charge fit is established for them.
Does the diffusion plate replace an outlet screen?
No. It spreads incoming water, while the outlet screen acts on liquid leaving the vessel.
Can I choose a paddle from kettle capacity alone?
Also check actual depth, opening and handle clearance. Nominal gallon capacity does not describe those dimensions.
