The equipment in use
This FERRODAY unit sends wort and cooling water through separate passages in a stack of 40 brazed plates. Choose it for an external cooling layout where you can provide wort-side plumbing, cooling water and a suitable cleaning routine. It is not a coil that simply sits in the kettle.
The selected port version is 1/2 NPT and 3/4 NPT. The marked wort ports use 1/2 NPT and water ports 3/4 NPT. Match the actual hose fittings to the thread type, rather than assuming every connector described as 3/4 in will fit. The use photo explicitly says the loose fittings are not included.
The plates are specified as 304 stainless with copper brazing. The body cannot be taken apart for cleaning, which is an important difference from an accessible immersion surface. The supplier calls for a filter upstream to keep grain and hop residue out and excludes viscous liquids.
The cleaning guidance calls for flushing, an appropriate cleaning procedure, clear-water rinsing and drying before storage. No cleaning chemical, concentration or pump is supplied. Compare the Northern Brewer counterflow unit for a different internal passage format, or an immersion coil when direct access to the wort-contact surface is more useful than the compact external body.
